Recipes for Homemade Hair Dye

Unlike men, women enjoy changing their look as often as possible. The most dramatic look changes are the ones which involve the hair, especially its color. However, changing your hair color on a regular basis can have severe consequences for the health of your hair. Lucky, there are certain homemade hair dye options which you can try. In this article, we have gathered the best natural hair dyes.

  • Dark homemade hair dye

There are several homemade recipes that you can try in order to darken your hair color. For starters, you can try either coffee or black tea. You need to make a strong brew of either coffee or black tea and pour it over your hair once it is cold (massage the head thoroughly in order for the color to be uniform). Once you do this, cover your hair with either a shower cap or a warm towel and let it sit for half an hour. This process needs to be repeated once every 3,4 days until you obtain the desired hair color and then repeat it once a week in order to maintain the color. Another way that you can darken your hair is by using green walnut shells. On this note, there are several recipes that you can try. One recipe involves grinding some green walnut shells (until you get 1-2 cups, depending on the length of your hair) which you must then mix with half a teaspoon of sunflower oil and a cup of boiled water. The resulted mixture should have the consistency of a puree which you apply on the wet, previously washed hair. make sure you let the mixture sit for 10 minutes until it cools down. After you apply the mixture, cover your hair with a shower cap and a warm tower and let it sit for half an hour after which you wash and rinse your hair thoroughly. You can also make a brew out of 2,5 pounds of green walnut shells. After washing your hair, you let it sit in the walnut brew for 5 minutes after which you wash the hair again. For a stronger result, you shouldn’t wash the hair after letting it sit in the brew but wrap it in a warm towel for half an hour and then let it dry naturally. Green walnut shells are also very good for the health of the hair as they strengthen it, eliminate the dandruff and give the hair a natural shine. However, whether you use the mixture or the brew, try to protect your hands with plastic gloves and your nails with clear nail polish. You should also use an old towel which you will keep solely for this purpose as it will be severely stained by the walnuts.

  • Light homemade hair dye

If you want to lighten your hair color in a natural way, you must first know that this process can take some time as there are no natural hair bleach solutions. However, you can try some recipes which will give you some lighter highlights or which will lighten you color in time. One such recipe involves mixing one cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice with 3 cups of strong camomile tea. Soak your hair thoroughly with this mixture and then let it dry naturally. In order to get a lighter color as fast as possible, use this recipe 2-3 times a week. You can also try a mixture made from three tablespoons of rhubarb root and two cups of boiled water. Let is simmer for 15 minutes and let it sit over night. The next day, soak your hair with the brew and let it dry naturally.

These homemade hair dyes are a great alternative to chemical hair dyes. However, you need to be very careful when you first try them. The results will depend on your natural color. We don’t advise you to try these methods if you are about to attend an important event. Furthermore, future brides should definitely stick to commercial hair dyes. The last thing you need is to include an unplanned styling session in your ultimate wedding checklist. Natural hair colorants are very helpful but only when you want to give your hair a break from chemical treatments. You should not include a home hair dye session in your ultimate wedding checklist. For occasions as special as the wedding day, it is always better to leave your hair in the hands of a professional.
